Police have found the body of a fisherman who went missing after a dinghy sank in Wellington Harbour this afternoon.
Divers made the discovery at about 5.25pm - 2hrs after the boat sank.
"The matter will now be referred to the coroner," said a police spokesperson.
The male, believed to be his his forties, was fishing with another man when their dinghy took on water about 75metres offshore from Hutt Road (SH2) near the Horokiwi turnoff.
"It is not known how the dinghy sank however one of the fishermen swam ashore following the incident which was witnessed by a member of public and reported to emergency services," said a police spokesperson.
Two police launches, a coastguard launch and Westpac Helicopter took part in the search.
"It is understood at this stage that neither person was wearing a lifejacket," the police spokesman added.
"Weather at the time is fine and with minimal wind and very calm surface conditions," the police official added.
The second boatie is not believed to have suffered any injuries.
