An armed man is believed to have entered a Harvey Norman store in Wanganui.
Police are reportedly on their way to the scene in the CBD.
Meanwhile, armed police have arrested two people after reports of an incident involving a firearm in central Wellington.
Acting central communications shift commander Mark Oliver said armed officers were called to the area around Ghuznee St after police received reports of a series of threatening text messages.
He said the messages gave police reason to believe they were hunting an armed offender.
Two people were arrested after police tracked them down in a vehicle on Willis St. No weapon had been found and police were being stood down.
A picture on Twitter appears to show a man being arrested against the wall of the Gordon Harris shop on Victoria St while officers inspect a blue-green car parked in the store's car park.
One Gordon Harris employee said there was "a big chase with dogs - I think he drove into our carpark hoping to make a runner and didn't quite make it''.
Their manager was told to "go back inside'' by the Armed Offenders Squad.
