The motorcyclist who struck and seriously injured a runner in Wairoa on Thursday evening is being urged to come forward by police.
Head of Western Bay road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the 39-year-old man was hit in Crawford Rd about 6pm.
He suffered a badly-broken leg and was taken by ambulance to Tauranga Hospital.
Emergency services were called to the scene by members of the public.
A Tauranga Hospital spokesman said today the man was in a stable condition in a ward.
Mr Campion said police were keen to speak to the rider, who had left the scene before police arrived.
Although police believe they have the registration number of the suspect motorcycle, Mr Campion said he would prefer the rider came forward voluntarily.
