The man caught on camera shoulder-charging a teenager off his skateboard has been arrested and charged with assault.

Police launched an investigation after a video of the incident was posted on the internet and went viral.

The footage was shot at a skateboarding competition for children as young as 6 at the Victoria Park Skate Park, on Sunday.

The man - identified as Craig Platt - is seen shoulder-charging a boy in a green T-shirt. The teen falls to the ground and looks surprised.

The 48-year-old was arrested today and released on police bail to appear in the Auckland District Court on Monday, according to Fairfax Media.
