Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire in central Auckland.
Three fire trucks were called to a block of Housing New Zealand flats in Bayard Street, Ponsonby about 3.26am.
Ponsonby station officer Grant Raye said one of the units, in a block of four, was well ablaze on arrival.
The unit was totally gutted by the blaze, while the other flats have sustained some smoke damage.
Mr Raye said the fire was extinguished a short time after arrival.
One person was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition and another in a moderate condition.
A third person was treated at the flat.
Fire safety are due to arrive at the scene this morning to investigate the blaze.
