Whangamata remains the top spot for Kiwi holidaymakers over summer, according to a bach booking website.
For the fourth year in a row, the Coromandel town has been the top destination chosen by people using Bookabach.
Bookings between December 1 and January 11 showed Lake Wanaka jumped seven spots to No 2 while Raglan, with the cheapest average rental of $184 a night, was third.
The majority of users made bookings in North Island spots, with Queenstown and Lake Wanaka the only South Island destinations making it into the top 10.
Queenstown and Oneroa, on Waiheke Island, commanded the highest prices, with averages of $428 and $458 a night respectively.
Bookabach chief executive Peter Miles said the total number of booked nights for the top 10 destinations had climbed 25 per cent over last year and Bay of Plenty beaches remain popular despite the Rena grounding. "Wanaka's high ranking also shows that Kiwis are no longer limiting their choices to the beach over summer."
Mr Miles said there were few cancellations for bach bookings in December and January despite the poor weather.
