The wallet of a Christchurch schoolgirl murdered in her home last week, was found at a shopping mall on the afternoon she died.

13-year-old Jade Bayliss was found in her burning Barrington Street house on Thursday.

Police have revealed she was assaulted before she died, and say two men have been arrested.

Detective Inspector Greg Williams says a member of the public found the wallet on the rooftop carpark at Riccarton Mall soon after 12.30 on Thursday, and handed it in to the mall.

He says police are now making enquiries as to how it came to be at the mall, including reviewing security footage of the car park.

Police have also spoken to gardening contractors who visited the Barrington Street property to mow the lawns during the latter part of Thursday morning.
