A woman has been pulled unconscious from her burning flat in Invercargill early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the blaze just before 2:30am.
Neighbours told fire crews one woman was still inside, so three of them forced entry using breathing apparatus and searched the building.
The woman was discovered a short time later and handed over to paramedics.
She was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Fire safety will investigate the cause of the incident at first light.
