A magnitude 5 earthquake has shaken the Nelson area.
The quake at 6.55pm was felt around central New Zealand. According to GNS Science, the earthquake struck 110km deep about 10 km southwest of Nelson and felt as far as Wellington.
"(The) earth shook in a really subtle, hardly felt it way," Twitter user Maree wrote.
No immediate reports of damage were made.
