The Department of Conservation will soon begin to blitz an island off Northland's coast to rid it of kiore, the Pacific rat.
The aerial drop of the cereal-based rat poison brodifacoum on Taranga, the "Hen" in the archipelago Captain Cook named the Hen and Chickens, is part of a restoration programme called Project Restore.
