A man is in police custody after an incident in Rotorua today in which another man was reported to have been shot.
Police were alerted to the incident at a house in Sunset Rd about 10am, and the armed offenders squad was called in and the area cordoned off.
Further details were not immediately available, with a police spokeswoman saying a news release would be issue later today.
She said the cordons had been removed.
The incident happened near Sunset Primary School, which went into temporary lockdown.
Principal Niels Rasmussen said police informed the school that pupils should be kept inside their classrooms until the all-clear was given.
"We secured the perimeter fence and informed everyone to stay inside until further notice," he said.
"There was a little bit of disruption. We had kids who had to stay in an extra three-quarters of an hour. It was timed over the morning break, when it always seemed to happen."
Mr Rasmussen said similar procedures were followed when another AOS callout happened near the school last year.
