Christchurch police are appealing for information about a "possible sexual assault" after a woman was heard screaming in Hagley Park early this morning.
Members of the public heard the woman scream about 12.50am after they saw a couple outside toilets in the park about 20 minutes earlier.
A group of passers-by then challenged a man walking towards Armagh Street about the incident. The man was spoken to by police but had not been charged.
Detective Joanne Guy said the only description of the woman was that she had long brown hair and was wearing dark-coloured high-heeled shoes.
Police wanted to speak to anyone who had seen or heard anything in the area between midnight and 1am this morning, Ms Guy said.
