A man was killed after being hit by a truck on the Southern Motorway early yesterday afternoon.
A police spokesman said the incident occurred under the Te Irirangi Drive overbridge near Manukau.
The motorway was heavily congested at the time and the northbound lane had to be closed to allow police to investigate.
It was not known how the man came to be on the motorway.
