A man has died after being struck by a freight train near Blenheim this morning.
Police said the man was on the track about 3.25am while the train was travelling through the township of Tuamarina.
The train stopped and emergency services were called to the scene.
The man's death is the sixth fatality on the railway this year and it comes during National Rail Safety Week, which launched on Monday.
