Couch fires on Dunedin's Castle Street have led to two arrests this evening.

The Fire Service was called to three separate incidents on the street between 5.50pm and 6.30pm, southern fire communications shift commander Riwai Grace said.

Two female students, aged 19 and 20, were arrested for disorderly behaviour, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said.

Police remained at the scene where a gathering of students was "reasonably well-behaved", Mr Grace said.

Otago University student magazine Critic reported a "Castle Street Keg Party" was taking place on the street tonight, hosted by a group calling itself the Castle St Country Club.

The street is notorious for Otago University student riots, with bottles thrown at police and couches lit on fire at past Undie 500 car rally events.
