Much of the North Island was rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale overnight.
The quake hit 10km south-west of Matata, in the Bay of Plenty.
It had a focal depth of 150km and struck at about 2.55am.
Four people in the Napier region had reported feeling the quake on the GNS website this morning.
