Auckland Zoo hopes to give a regal farewell to a treasured elephant today.
Kashin was put down on Monday after 36 years at the zoo.
Entry to the zoo is free today, in her honour. Mayor John Banks says it will be a fitting tribute. People will have an opportunity to visit Kashin';s final resting place and pay their respects.
It will be the only time the public will be able to access the area.
