Graeme Burton will stand trial on November 9 charged with trying to stab a gang member to death in prison.
Burton appeared at the High Court at Auckland for a callover on Thursday, where his trial date was set.
He was committed to trial at a depositions hearing in North Shore District Court last month, charged with attempting to murder fellow inmate Dwayne Marsh at Auckland Prison at Paremoremo.
He pleaded not guilty.
