A 51-year-old man has been charged with the 2007 murder of Ruakawa Ben Newton.
Mr Newton, 38, was stabbed in the heart on October 12 at a house in Konene Street, Rotorua, and died almost instantly.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper said the arrest followed a 21-month investigation by Rotorua detectives, FBI and British police.
The man was expected to appear in Rotorua District Court today.
