A school bus full of children going home crashed into a power pole near Hokitika, injuring one person.
The driver and 17 children were trapped inside the bus for 30 minutes, while emergency services secured powerlines, Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy told NZPA.
One person was taken to Grey Base Hospital with moderate injuries.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said he did not know the patient's age or gender.
The crash took place on Blue Spur Road, outside the West Coast town about 3.30pm today.
