KEY POINTS:
Photographs of the Hamilton cool store fire have flooded in to nzherald.co.nz in a good example of the way news reporting is changing.
When the blaze erupted at the Icepak coolstore at Tamahere, near Hamilton, reporters and photographers from the Herald and Herald on Sunday were dispatched straight away.
But at the same time hundreds of residents began sending in their photos to nzherald.co.nz.
It was an example of the way "citizen journalism" is helping the coverage of a story.
Residents sent in photos from all around Hamilton showing the plumes of smoke. Others photographed the flames seen from around the area.
The photos ranged in quality but all had the raw quality of capturing news as it unfolds.
The photos - and some video - are still being sent in today, two days after the fire.
