Police have arrested three youths for allegedly attacking a Christchurch man found in a pool of blood near his home early yesterday.
Builder Gary Snook, 45, is in Christchurch Hospital's intensive care unit recovering from serious injuries after a savage bashing in suburban Mairehau early yesterday.
Mr Snook had been dropped off near his home by a taxi after attending a work event until about midnight.
He was found unconscious with serious head and chest injuries lying in a pool of blood on the footpath about 5.15am.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae, of Papanui police, said three youths aged 14, 16 and 17 were arrested last night and charged with assault.
Two would appear in the Youth Court and one in Christchurch District Court this morning.
Mr Rae said Mr Snook's condition had improved yesterday afternoon and he had regained consciousness, but was "still groggy" from his beating.
Police would speak to him again today.
Mr Rae said a taxi driver police were seeking had also come forward with information.
Police were seeking witnesses to the incident or anyone who was in the area between midnight and 5.15am.
