Police have arrested a 30-year-old man and charged him with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, after an attack in a Manukau City carpark on Saturday.

Police said the man - a panel beater from South Auckland - was being held in custody and would appear in the Manukau District Court on Monday.

The 25-year-old victim was attacked at a carpark in Cavendish Drive at about 2am yesterday and is said to be in a stable condition in Middlemore Hospital.

Police said he was likely to be discharged from hospital later this week.

Enquiries are continuing to locate the weapon used in the attack and police have not ruled out further arrests.
