A Tauranga man who used a James Bond-style device to hide his motorcycle licence plate from police was fined $1640 after crashing into a patrol car during a high-speed pursuit.
Garry Leonard Muzyka, 46, had a hand lever next to the fuel tank, which enabled him to tilt the number plate so it was horizontal and could not be read.
He was convicted and fined after pleading guilty to one charge each of exceeding the 100km/h speed limit, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.
No charge was laid in relation to the number plate device.
