Parents curious about making the switch to modern cloth nappies will be able to learn more when The Nappy Lady comes to Masterton on Friday.
Kate Meads is well known for her TV appearances and workshops around New Zealand, where she educates parents and local councils about sustainable parenting.
She has been invited to Masterton to give a presentation and answer parents' questions about the benefits of cloth nappies. Ms Meads said she wanted to show parents how far modern cloth nappies have developed since the days of flat nappies with pink stripes.
She said parents often needed convincing that cloth nappies did not require a lot of hard work and time with washing and care.
About one million disposable nappies go to New Zealand landfills each day and Ms Meads aims to cut that number.
Her goal is to get each parent in New Zealand using one cloth nappy per day which would save about one million disposable nappies per week.
A recent Canstar Blue survey showed 70 per cent of respondents used only disposable nappies.
Ms Meads said she was pleased by the survey results because just a few years ago the figures were much higher.
For Friday's presentation Ms Meads will show a range of samples and give away several packs of cloth nappies.
She said the event would be a light hearted and fun discussion
The free presentation starts at 2.30pm. Register interest by calling Masterton Christian Childcare Centre on 377 5476.
