A 44 year-old man charged with murdering a Hastings man in his home last month has been further remanded in custody until June 14.
The man, who had been living in the same neighbourhood as the victim, Douglas Bruce Apperley, was granted continued name suppression at Hastings District Court.
Mr Apperley, 59, was found dead in his Townshend Street home in suburban St Leonard's on April 16,
Police said that he suffered "terrible" head injuries and was stabbed several times in the chest.
The accused man was remanded by Judge Alistair Garland under the Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act.
