A man has died after a family harm incident near Morrinsville.
Police said a 42-year-old has since been arrested and taken into custody after they were called to the property at Gordonton, on the outskirts of Hamilton, last night.
The victim was seriously injured and died of his injuries in hospital this morning.
Police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the man's death.
The accused appeared in the Hamilton District Court this afternoon on a charge of assaulting a woman he was in a family relationship with.
The police prosecutor told the court the incident was still being actively investigated by officers and further charges were likely due to the victim dying overnight.
Defence lawyer Alex Williams successfully sought interim name suppression and didn't apply for bail.
She said the accused had been seen by forensic staff at court who would prepare a report.
She asked for an overnight remand in custody without plea which was approved by the community magistrate.
Meanwhile, a neighbour said the family who lived at the property owned several dairy farms around the area and largely kept to themselves.
The neighbour said she didn't realised anything had happened until she came home this morning to find police parked in her driveway.
She said her partner noticed a number of police on the road when he got home from work about 1.30am.
