More than 2400 new Toyotas sold in New Zealand and an unknown number of vehicles sold as used imports are being recalled, just a month after 21,000 Toyotas were recalled.
In 1612 vehicles sold new in New Zealand, the steering shaft could make an abnormal noise or rattle if the shaft engagement has loosened, Toyota said.
The vehicles affected are:
* Avensis - made between 2002 and 2008
* Corolla - 2000 to 2007
* Prius - 2003 to 2009.
Another 816 Toyota Prius vehicles manufactured between June 2003 and April 2009 are being recalled because a wiring fault could cause the pump motor to stop "leading to the illumination of warning lights on the instrument panel and, in the worst case, the hybrid system may stop working,'' a statement said.
"An unspecified number of vehicles sold as used imports may also be involved.''
Toyota New Zealand customer services general manager Spencer Morris said there had not been any accidents relating to these "conditions'' in New Zealand.
Owners of the affected vehicles would be advised in a letter and should have their vehicle inspected.
Last month Toyota recalled at least 21,000 New Zealand vehicles as part of a worldwide recall affecting 7.43 million vehicles.
At the time, the company said the power-window switch on the driver's side could overheat and melt if treated with the wrong lubricant.
The New Zealand models affected by that recall were Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Rav4, and Yaris produced between 2006 and 2010.
