The Kuwaiti Government has offered itself as a much less controversial sponsor for a Christchurch mosque.
Last month, Christchurch's Muslim community was split on a proposal to sell the mosque to a Saudi-based charity with alleged links to terrorism.
The charity, Al-Haramain, offered a $700,000 donation to Christchurch Muslims in return fora dominant role on a trust which would take over ownership of the mosque.
The proposal was rejected by a number of mosque members.
Now the Kuwaiti Government has offered to fund the mosque's activities, without buying a stake in it.
