The husband of a woman who was burned to death on the side of a remote Waikato road last week has appeared in court charged with her murder.
Davesh Sharma, 29, made a brief appearance before a community magistrate in Hamilton yesterday morning and was remanded in custody until Tuesday for a further appearance.
A bid for name suppression failed because the magistrate said details of the incident had already been reported in the media.
Standing in the dock, the 29-year-old postal worker appeared tired and rubbed his hands over his face several times.
Ranjeeta Sharma, 28, was alive when an accelerant was poured over her and she was set alight.

Warbirds over Wanaka
Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
