Govt moves to have MPs declare their assets

Moves to have all MPs declare their assets were announced by the Government today.

At present only ministers were required to declare their interests and assets.

Ministers have had to declare properties, shares, paid directorships, substantial ownership interests in businesses or professional practices.

They also have to list mortgages or other debts, overseas trips (other than those paid for by the taxpayer or themselves), gifts worth more than $500, and payments for outside activities, such as writing articles or giving speeches.
