Wanaka is mopping up today after a flash flood went through homes and businesses.
Torrential rain fell for just under an hour last night - enough to send torrents of water rushing through the town.
The water ripped up footpaths as it tried to get to Wanaka's natural reservoir, Lake Wanaka.
Water went through a number of shops in the downtown area but quick action by store owners and locals meant most stock was moved to higher ground.
On the other side of town a huge river of mud and stones went through a number of properties.
