Farm workers trapped

Two farm workers were trapped by rising waters when heading to milking on a dairy farm on Swamp Road just out of Carterton in the early hours of yesterday morning.
They called the police from a cell phone at 4.23am when the water levels reached the doors and started leaking into their 4WD. The truck was eventually towed clear of the floodwaters with a tractor.
In an unrelated incident another farmer was stranded by a rising river on the back of his farm on Hakakino Road on Wednesday. A relative called police to report him missing when he had not returned during the day.
The man eventually made his own way back to the farmhouse around 7pm when waters receded.
