Six boaties marooned on Mana Island, north of Wellington, were enjoying a third night of Department of Conservation hospitality last night after rough seas again prevented their departure.
The family group, whose 5m boat broke down in high seas on Monday night, were rescued by DoC staff after one boatie swam150m to raise the alarm.
High seas meant a boat could not be safely launched from the island, which has no jetty.
A DoC spokesman said the family would be "refugeeing" until conditions improved.
