Drug addict Joseph Adair burgled his sick elderly father's house, took cheques from a chequebook, then went on a fraud spree, Christchurch District Court was told yesterday.
Adair, 36, admitted burglary, seven counts of using documents to defraud, and also driving under the influence, dangerous driving, entering with intent, cultivating cannabisand possessing cannabis seeds.
Sentencing him to nine months' jail, Judge David Holderness said Adair's burglary of his 80-year-old father's house and use of the stolen cheques were the most serious aggravating factors, because of the breach of trust.
