The Hutt Valley District Health Board is getting a cash injection of $8.6 million.
The Government is giving the DHB the money as a one-off payment to help pay day-to-day bills without always going into overdraft.
Health Minister Tony Ryall says the funding does not pay off the board's deficit but will support it while it sorts out its ongoing deficit.
He says the National Government inherited a health system on track to financial crisis, with deficits exceeding $155 million.
