The annual Northland Sports Awards sponsored by Genesis Energy and hosted by Sport Northland proved to be another glittering success in Whangarei on Friday night. Northland triathlete Sam Warriner won the major award, the Northland Sportsperson of the Year, but there were many other category winners and three more Northlanders inducted to the Northland Legends of Sport - Laurie Byers, Brian Dunning and Ted Griffin.

Sportsman of the Year - Andrew Murdoch (yachting)
Sportswoman of the Year - Sam Warriner (triathlon)
Rowsell Collision Repairs Administrator of the Year - Robbie Ball (Kaeo Rugby Club)
Courier Post Coach of the Year - Murray Healey (triathlon)
Mizone Referee/Umpire of the Year - Melanie Oakdden (hockey)
Air NZ Brian Maunsell Memorial Service to Sport - Gwen Lawson (marching, netball, bowls)
Dudley and Dennis Team of the Year - Team Inspiration (yachting)
Northland Legends of Sport Inductees - Laurie Byers (cycling), Brian Dunning (cricket), Ted Griffin (rugby).
