Crowds packed out Whangārei's speedway track on Saturday for the final event in the club's calendar - the Whangārei speedway extravaganza.
About 70 drivers got strapped in for a great day of racing in excellent conditions. Whangārei speedway club vice-president Paul Thornley said the end to the season was fantastic with a full crowd and talented drivers.
"We had the pits full, the crowd was quite vocal and they got quite into supporting the drivers and the racing, the weather was great, the track was super fast so it was a combination of it all which made for great day of racing."
Thornley said he hoped a greater interest from the local community would bring more drivers out of the woodwork.
"It's been a fantastic season for us, we are very positive going forward into next season which is looking pretty bright for us so we are very happy as a committee and a club."
The local speedway season will start back up in October.
