In what may be a first for the Century Batteries Beach and Boat competition it was a female who took out first place snapper after reeling in the biggest fish of the tournament.
The annual competition, held in Marsden Cove Marine, is the largest snapper fishing competition in the Southern Hemisphere and attracted about 1400 fishermen and women this year.
Nicky Sinden, the new organiser of the event, said everyone had a good time fishing on Friday and Saturday.
"We got a lot of positive feedback. It may be the first time a female won the first place snapper competition," she said.
The winning fisherwoman, Zara Clifton - who is from Northland but lives in Matamata, reeled in a 12.2kg snapper.
Photographer Tania Whyte went along to see what people caught.
