Emergency services searching for a missing fisherman in the Hokianga Harbour have located the man's body.
A police statement said the body of the 65-year-old was found around 8pm.
The fisherman was due back at midday but a search was organised after he failed to return and a friend reported it to police.
"At approximately 5.15pm Police were notified that a man had not returned from fishing at Motukaraka Point, Kohukohu, Hokianga Harbour," the statement said.
"Police conducted a search with Coastguard and air support, along with assistance from the community. The body of a 65-year-old man was found around 8pm."
Earlier today his boat had been sighted offshore, approximately 150 metres off at Motukaraka Point.
Police extended their sympathies to the family of the man and said in the statement they were currently being supported.
The matter has been referred to the coroner.
