Around 30 people took part in a 'plogging and palking' event in central Whangārei yesterday.
The idea was to pick up rubbish while jogging or walking.
Organiser Zola McDonald said seven council bags of rubbish and eight containers of recycling were collected from around the Hatea Loop and central Whangārei streets.
Northern Advocate photographer John Stone went along.
Mum Sandy Hatherell, with Braylee Goffin, seven, and Riley Goffin, 12, heard the call and were cleaning up some city streets yesterday, including Robert St.
Hatherell said she saw the post on the Motorcycle Lab's social media page for helpers and didn't hesitate.
''They've helped us with fundraising in the past to send our son Jaedin Goffin to Europe so we thought we'd give something back. It's also a good way to keep our streets clean and it gets us out of the house.''
