It takes a brave soul to shave off their hair in the middle of winter, but on Monday a hardy crew from Dargaville will do just that in a FundRazor for young girl with a rare form of brain cancer.
Charlotte Powell, aged 5, has a giggle that fills up a room, but she has Angiomatoid Fibrous Histiocytoma (AFH) tumour, a rare condition that she has recently undergone radiotherapy to treat.
She's had seven tumours removed during three five-and-half-hour long operations this past year. She has endured and recovered well from radiation treatment and has only recently returned to school.
''The radiation treatment has resulted in Charlotte losing her hair. This is why we decided to do the FundRazor to show our support and love for a young girl who has shown immense courage and determination in spite of some really difficult circumstances,'' organiser Rose Stirling said.
At 1.30pm on Monday, at Charlotte's school, St Josephs Primary School Hall, in Dargaville, some of her schoolmates and teachers will go under the clippers for the FundRazor. All money raised will go towards supporting Charlotte and her family.
"We're all looking forward to this event, it's going to be a fun filled afternoon with Charlie's school teachers and classmates braving this cold winter weather to get kina cuts. To show their support for one brave and very gutsy little girl who has been through so much this past year," Stirling said.
Those taking part in the fundrazor can have their photo posted to a Facebook page (/www.facebook.com/Charlies-Fundrazor-233227217432346/) and people can then sponsor them on the page.
All proceeds go towards supporting Charlie and her family. Charlie has a rare form of brain cancer and has recently undergone radiotherapy to treat it.
