A Whangarei theatre company is making sure children in low decile schools don't miss out on its popular kids show.
Company of Giants is putting on another season of its Jabberwock puppet show this month after a successful season in July.
Company member Thomas Gowing said the show got a really good reaction from children earlier in the year so the company decided to bring it back for schools in December.
Mr Gowing said the company approached businesses to sponsor shows at $500 each, so students in low decile schools could attend for free.
"We want to get as many people as possible involved in the arts."
Five companies got on board and have paid for shows for Tikipunga Primary, Morningside School, Blomfield Special School and two for Raurimu Ave School.
Mr Gowing said he also got some funding from the council to pay for the buses to transport the students to Oneonesix.
He hoped bringing the students to shows for free could become an annual event.
In addition, there will be 14 shows for the public to buy tickets and attend. The shows will be held from December 7 to 17 at Oneonesix.
As well as standard ticket prices, a koha will apply for anyone who can't afford the full price.
The show takes place in a giant sheet fort and the children crawl through a sheet tunnel to get into the theatre.
Mr Gowing said the children can come along in their pyjamas with a teddy bear.
The show is about a boy who is moving out of his house and has to say goodbye to all his imaginary monsters. His best friend, and hardest goodbye is the Jabberwock monster.
The children would be encouraged to bring along a drawing of their favourite monster, and at the end of the show the paper and pens will come out for the children to draw their favourite part.
"Hopefully we'll have a huge monster wall at the end of it."
Mr Gowing, along with Tomasin Fisher-Johnson, Georgia Pope and Mataara Stokes, will bring the puppets to life, performing up to four shows a day.
"It's going to be heaps of fun," Mr Gowing said.
