Teen still in hospital after fall
A 19-year-old who fell 50m off a cliff remains in the Intensive Care Unit in a stable condition in Whangarei Hospital.
The teenager was winched into the Northland Rescue Helicopter just after 3pm on Monday. Fire crew were at Paranui Falls and were about to start a training exercise when they were alerted to the injured man. They were able to raise the alarm immediately.
Road repairs
The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists it will be carrying out road repairs and maintenance to State Highway 1 through the Waipu Bypass during the next four weeks.
The road surface between Nova Scotia Drive and Shoemaker Rd is to improve safety and resilience on this stretch of the state highway.
The road will be reduced to one lane and traffic management will be in place, including stop go at night. There will also be detours for southbound traffic on three days during the following dates: November 27 - December 1 and December 12 - December 17. The work is expected to be finished by December 22.
Man, 89, dies
An 89-year-old Northland man has died in hospital 11 days after a serious crash near Kerikeri. Police confirmed the man died in hospital on Sunday. The fatality takes Northland's road toll to 32. On November 8 the man was driving a vehicle that crashed on SH10 about 10am.
He was assessed as being in a critical condition by a passing off-duty paramedic and was taken by ambulance to Kerikeri Sports Complex, then flown to Whangarei Hospital by the Northland Rescue Helicopter. The other driver, a 67-year-old Kerikeri man, was taken to Bay of Islands Hospital but discharged later in the day.
