The roadworks on Whangarei's Hatea Drive are on track to be finished by the middle of next week.

The milling and resurfacing of the road is scheduled maintenance to keep the road in good order.

Whangarei District Council roading projects engineer Kevin Barry said the section on Riverside Drive from the Discovery Settlers Hotel to Nixon St is still on schedule.

The work is being carried out from 9am to 9pm during the day, with the exception of one night.

He said the work on Riverside Drive started as planned on Monday with some tree removal. The road-surface milling finished on Thursday.

The works are so far on schedule to be finished by Wednesday.

Mr Barry said there were night works last tonight and four days of hot mix resurfacing from tomorrow to Wednesday - subject to the weather.

The stretch of road is being controlled by stop/go signs to ensure traffic flow.
