Chairman re-elected
NZ Young Farmers chairman, chartered accountant Jason Te Brake, has been re-elected for the coming two years and Hamish Best - runner-up in the 2017 FMG Young Farmer of the Year Grand Final - has joined the board.
Best works as a technical field representative for PGG Wrightson. Also on the board are Grass Roots Media NZ owner Chelsea Millar from the Taranaki/Manawatu Young Farmer region and farm consultant Sam Waugh from Tasman, both elected last year. PGG Wrightson animal nutrition technical specialist Nadine Huitema has stepped down from the board.
Cropping research update
The Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) will hold a cropping research update in the committee room at the Barge Showgrounds in Whangarei from 7pm-8.30pm on Monday.
Nick Pyke and Allister Holmes will discuss results from FAR's research including: Lessons from the fluxmeter, variable rate seeding, cover crops to minimise environmental impacts from maize, slug management, no till, maize performance trials and riparian strips.
