Tank traps man
Emergency services were called to a rural property west of Kerikeri when a man became trapped under a water tank.
The incident occurred on Wiroa Rd about 11.40am yesterday when it is understood a man working alone was trapped by his legs when one of two large water tanks rolled onto him. Police, St John Ambulance and two crews from the Kerikeri Fire Brigade responded.
Their lifting equipment was not needed, however, because the man managed to free himself before they arrived. He was checked by medics at the scene but did not require treatment.
Footpath but which side?
The Far North District Council is planning to build a footpath on Kaikohe's Recreation Rd from Station Rd to Mangakahia Rd - the question is, should it go on the north side or south side?
To gauge public opinion the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board has created an online forum where people can vote and leave comments. The footpath is likely to be 2.5m wide for use by pedestrians and cyclists.
Go to oursay.org/khcb/recreation-road-footpath-north-or-south-side or follow the link from the Kaikohe - Hokianga Community Board Facebook page. The Pioneer Village is on the north side, Lindvart Park on the south.
