Woman injured
A 47-year-old Northland woman remains in a stable but critical condition following a serious crash on the Kamo bypass. The woman was cut free by firefighters from an extensively damaged vehicle she had been driving. She was taken to Auckland Hospital by helicopter on Tuesday evening. The car, travelling towards Whangarei, and a northbound truck collided about 8.50am on Tuesday, on Kamo bypass about 100m south of Great North Rd.
Chopper savings
Doing maintenance on the Northland Rescue Helicopter fleet in-house has lead to significant savings over the past 18 months. It is the only dedicated rescue helicopter trust in New Zealand with the capability to carry out the highly-specialised maintenance work required following Civil Aviation Authority approval in 2015. Since 2015, the trust has saved approximately 20 per cent on the cost of purchasing parts.
Couple on the run
A couple with strong links to Northland are on the run from police. Whangarei police are looking for 42-year-old Milan Barry Ngamu and his partner, Grace Brack, 32, who sometimes also goes by the surname of Eruera. Both have warrants for their arrest and could be either in the wider Northland area or the North Shore. If anyone has information about where either of these people are contact Whangarei police on 09 430 4500 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They have both failed to turn up for court in Kaikohe.
Assault alleged
A 24-year old Whangarei man was to appear in court after allegedly assaulting his 23-year-old partner who is 36 weeks pregnant. Police say the alleged assault happened at a Raumanga house on Tuesday. He faces a charge of injuring with intent to injure. Sergeant James Calvert said if anyone suspected a family violence incident was happening to dial 111.
