The wreckage of a helicopter that plunged into dense Northland bush killing the two people onboard has been airlifted from the site.
Investigators from the Transport Accident Investigation Commission completed their on-site analysis in the Glenbervie Forest and had the wreckage of the R44 helicopter removed yesterday.
Investigator in charge Sam Stephenson said the helicopter was in dense native bush a short walk from a 4WD forestry road.
"It was in fairly rugged terrain," Stephenson said.
The wreckage was flown to a truck in the forest and would be taken to a secure site for further examination today.
It will then be trucked to the Commission's technical facility in Wellington for further analysis.
The two investigators have interviewed a number of people but more are planned as they try to piece together what caused the tragic crash.
They are expected to return to Wellington this weekend.
Monday's crash killed Derek Hammond, 49, of Kauri, and pilot Allan Jessop, 42, from Tangiteroria.
