A fire in one of the abandoned and derelict sheds at Jubilee Park is being treated as suspicious.
Two Whangarei fire crews and a police team attended the fire, which was lit in inside the concrete block shed yesterday.
The alarm was raised by witnesses who were on Tawera Rd when they noticed two men leave the shed. They saw smoke pouring from it immediately afterwards, about 12.30pm.
There have been multiple arson hits at the former league ground this year, including one that razed the clubroom in March.
The concrete grandstand has also been subjected to arson attempts and other vandalism.
One of the witnesses said he was talking to someone on the Tawera Rd footpath and looking down toward the park when he saw two men moving away quickly from the shed.
